THE POWER OF THE BRAINSTORM

Hi there. If you’ve got this far down into my work you’re serious. I commend you. So why don’t we change tack and discuss the subtle art of the Brainstorm for a minute or two?

There’s an art to a great Brainstorm. You love ‘em or you hate ‘em.

Both the problem and the solution are that all of our minds are different and so to get results we have to tap into them skillfully. Personally, I’ve been known to pick some brains in my time and I’m a big fan of mind maps.

For instance, this example below was for Scottish Power, a large Power Company that (in theory) should have been leading the way in renewable energy but unfortunately wasn’t. And so decided to look for opportunities from the top down. All it took was 14 of us and the largest piece of paper known to man. We were looking for those little nuggets and for new and interesting stories that hadn’t been told before. At the end of the day besides some great ideas it helps to get people onto one page and give them a clear idea of the bigger picture.

“What did you do with it?”
I hear you ask. Well, quite simply, we rolled it up and sent it to them.
